TMNT!!!

Woo-hoo!
Turtles.
I am very excited. (I bought a Raph "action figure")
I am a dork.
This movie going experience is dedicated to tyleet1047...becasue i promised. :)

....(After the movie)....

OMFG!!!!
Damn! They finally move right!! And the family tension!!! whoa. (It's not completely dumbed down for kids)
If you liked TMNT when you were younger, or have gotten into them recently...go see this movie! Even if you have no idea who they are you will like this movie. I pretty much guarantee it.

II have read elsewhere that the fight in the rain is like the best scene of the movie. They weren't wrong. It is like scarily well done. The tension between Leo and....well, not gonna spoil it....and the rain effects and the movement. damn. :)

It does take a few minutes to get used to the style of animation at the beginning. It looks too...slick...too polished.... but once things move to NY and the sewers, its better, i promise. also, did i mention they finally move right? The way they do in my head when reading stories or comics...
*sigh* - I may have to get up early on Sunday to do my laundry so i can go see it again.... :)

yay!

btw - am i allowed to have a crush on an animated character? and if i am...can someone get me a real Raphael?? *le sigh* Muscles and angst...what's not to love??

300

So, i went to see 300 after i saw TMNT....

yeah...um, good movie, nice visuals....TMNT was better.

/me pleads for no rotten tomatoes thrown at her... :)

seriously tho, I got bored in the movie. It was lovely, and very nicely stylized, but I also have leafed thru most of the Graphic novel it was based on and most of the key and awesomely freaky frames were in there, they had good stuff to work with.

The plot holes were kinda large. And Leonidas was occasionally from Sparta, but often from Scotland or Ireland....it was interesting....

And after the pretty visuals wore off, the speechifying got to be a bit obnoxious and slightly boring. Also, all the death scenes with the horrific violence (while very very well done) became almost pat in their sameness. I think they could have cut out several of the scenes from the middle and the movie would have been much better (or at least hit me with more visceral feeling?)...

The plot was (obviously) a bit more mature than TMNT, but they both felt a little glossy, a little plastic-y. I expected it in the turtle movie, not so much in 300... I found it amusing that in the credits, there were actually location scouts and coordinators listed. I honestly have to wonder exactly what they did... (It was painfully obvious at moments that they were completely filmed on a stage with lots of green screen effects.)

Yeah, so 300, while very lovely, loses something to me in the translation...I think i was looking to be moved in a very gut wrenching visceral way (like Gladiator (one my faves)) and I wasn't and Im trying to pin down why. (I was drawn much more into TMNT, but i think there, I was in fan-girl mode and was willing to just play along in comic book land, It is easier to suspend your disbelief when the heroes are large turtles and the movie is not serious and you know that going into it...)

Bottom line. 300 has bigger battles, but Gladiator has a much more human story, and certain fight scenes in TMNT are better.

But, definetly worth the price of a ticket. :)

Ok...so fanfic occasionally serves a purpose...

I just read this story.

Ok. I get it now.
I just saw TMNT and 300 tonight.
I didnt understand why i thought TMNT was so much better....
Now I do.
TMNT is what a warrior and his family is like in life.
300 is what the end of that life is like. Glorious and in battle fighting for his family, his country, his reality. Leonardo and Leonidas are quite alike...but eons apart in years, experience, and acceptance of how to die a warrior's death.
Leo is getting there, slowly, but hopefully, he will not be required to sacrifice the way the Spartan king did.

Hmmmm.....But does Raph get it? I think he does, but he is scared to admit it. Thoughts?
