Sometimes, modern society scares me.

READ THIS ESSAY.

Read the last two paragraphs. If you are not scared or concerned for the future of our society - please let me know why.

This is related to a whole bunch of other stuff swirling around in my head right now, but this is a good start to help me put my finger on it....

Yin & Yang
I see this as a mixed bag. Humans are creatures of habit. Much as I and others want them to be in a constant Hegelian dialectic within themselves, they're not.

One of the reasons that "manners" survive is that in a strange way, it habituates some elements of good behavior.

However, as we learn from our fairy tales "Nice is different than good" and when this overlap dissolves or a resolute ability to deal with a situation whose best outcome is not 'good' but merely 'best' appears, the self inconsiderate are oft ill prepared.

People have become lazy. They get their news from facebook, rather than from true journalism. They get their sense of belonging, not from their actual country, where getting along is harder, but from facebook.

On the other hand, they see the banality of everyone equally.
